Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Sept. 14, on all public buildings statewide in memory of Arvada Firefighter Lieutenant Jim Schaefer. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
Schaefer, 58, died on Sept. 10 after a courageous battle with cancer. He served as a member of Arvada Fire for more than 20 years, most recently as Lieutenant at Station 3. Schaefer loved serving the people of Arvada. He is survived by his wife, three adult children, his mother, sisters and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at Faith Bible Chapel, 63rd Ave. and Ward Rd. in Arvada.
Colorado Air and Space Port Signs Lease with University of Denver to Create Six Sigma Center of Excellence
The Colorado Air and Space Port (CASP) and AltitudeX Aviation Group (AltitudeX) this week announced the signing of a lease with the University of Denver (DU) to establish a Six Sigma Center of Excellence on CASP property. This new development will bring one of the world’s most recognized quality and efficiency programs, Six Sigma, to the state’s only licensed spaceport and the closest reliever airport to Denver International Airport (DEN).

Adams County Receives Two Geothermal Energy Grants
The Colorado Energy Office (CEO) announced Adams County is receiving funding for two projects from the state’s Geothermal Energy Grant Program (GEGP) to support geothermal heating initiatives. As part of the $1.6 million awarded across the state from this program, Adams County is receiving $291,000 for the Waymire Dome at Riverdale Regional Park and $51,000 for the air traffic control tower at Colorado Air and Space Port (CASP).
