This division coordinates efforts and reviews related to development projects. This includes development engineering, land use and zoning administration, building permitting and inspection. The division is primarily responsible for:
- Ensuring that land uses within the unincorporated portions of the county are developed in compliance with the county’s adopted codes and regulations.
- Reviewing and issuing building permits, land use permits, and a variety of other specialized permits.
- Administering the county’s floodplain regulations.
- Administering, updating, and maintaining the Adams County Development Standards & Regulations.
Building Safety administers and coordinates the review of building, electrical, and mechanical permits in accordance with the adopted codes. Development Engineering provides professional engineering reviews for new development applications to determine road and drainage requirements. This review ensures consistency with engineering standards and the county’s overall plans. The staff also administers the county’s floodplain regulations and processes right-of-way dedications.
Current Planning administers land use reviews of applications such as site plans, subdivisions, rezoning, conditional use permits, special use permits, and variances. Some of the applicable standards that are reviewed in this process include zoning, permitted uses, setbacks, height, landscaping, parking, and signs.
