Art & Lived Experience: Housing Insecurity

A collaboration between Adams County Cultural Arts and Community Safety & Well-Being

In the Spring of 2023, artist Shaunie Berry worked alongside Adams County Community Safety & Well-Being staff to serve residents experiencing housing insecurity. While residents used the laundry and shower services at Crossroads Community Center, Berry created a space for them to connect and practice creative expression.

Berry integrated herself into the community at Crossroads, developing relationships with those using Crossroads’ services. What came from these relationships were five beautiful works of art capturing the voice and essence of some of the participants of Berry’s program.

Berry’s work not only highlights the resilience of humanity but serves as a reminder to lean on each other when times get tough. You can view Berry’s work and learn more about the participants at Crossroads Community Center.
