Adams County Cancels Annual Stars & Stripes Event Due to COVID-19 Concerns

Adams County has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Stars & Stripes festival planned for July 3. The health and safety of residents and staff is the county’s top priority, and restrictions on large gatherings are expected to remain in place due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We did not take this decision to cancel our annual Stars & Stripes event lightly,” said County Manager Raymond Gonzales. “However, safety is our utmost concern, and after many discussions, we have decided to forgo this year’s event out of an abundance of caution.”

Adams County would like to thank the sponsors and partners involved in this year’s event for their tireless efforts over the last few weeks to find a solution that would avoid a cancellation.

“One of the key ingredients for a successful event like this is to bring the community together as one and celebrate our great nation,” said Board of County Commissioners Chair Emma Pinter. “Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there is not a safe way to do so this year. We encourage our residents to have a safe Independence Day at home with their families and friends.”

Adams County has celebrated Independence Day on July 3 with its Stars & Stripes event for the previous five years at Riverdale Regional Park. With more than 12,000 residents attending the festival and fireworks in 2019, staff is already planning Adams County’s premiere Independence Day celebration for next year.
