Filing a Lien

To file a lien on a motor vehicle, you must provide our office with:
  • DR2395 Title Application
  • The properly signed and notarized (if applicable) title
  • A copy of a chattel mortgage or security agreement
    • The chattel mortgage or security agreement must show the year, make, and full VIN or the serial number of the vehicle, the total lien amount, the assignment of lien, and the signature of the buyer or owner of the lien.
  • Sales Tax, if applicable
  • Filing fees of $5.00 per side per 14-inch page of the chattel mortgage or security agreement or $10 per side per page for oversized pages
  • $7.20 for a new title or a refinance title

Upon receipt of the above, we will record your lien and the new title will be mailed to the lienholder in approximately 8 weeks.

Removing a Lien

To remove a lien on a motor vehicle, the owner (or agent with proper identification and power attorney) must provide our office with: 
  • The title with the lien release section properly signed and dated by the financial institution or lienholder.
  • If completing this by mail a completed DR2395 Title Application is required
  • $7.20 title fee

Upon receipt of the proper documents, an application for the title will be completed and a clear title will be issued. Please allow 2-4 weeks to receive the free and clear title in the mail.
