County Offers Resource to Properly Retire American Flags

Residents wanting to properly retire American flags can now drop off torn and tattered flags at all six Adams County Motor Vehicle locations. Flags can be placed in the ballot drop-off boxes outside each location now through October.

Flags collected from the boxes will be given to the Fort Vazquez Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). The NSDAR will perform a proper flag retirement ceremony.

“I had a stack of retired flags in my basement and didn’t know where I could drop them off for proper disposal. Now, partnering with the Fort Vazquez NSDAR we are able to provide this American flag retirement service to residents,” said Stan Martin, Adams County Clerk and Recorder. “The easily accessible locations make our ballot drop-off boxes a great resource for this purpose.”

If larger flags do not fit in the boxes, they can be dropped off inside our locations with Motor Vehicle staff. For a list of all locations, visit: www.adcogov.org/services-locations.
