Community Development Block Grant
Program Creation
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program, was created by Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.

Purpose
The intent of the program is development of viable urban communities by providing the following:
  • Assistance principally for individuals of low and moderate income
  • Decent housing
  • Expanding economic opportunities
  • Suitable living environments

It is designed to fund or support a variety of activities such as:
  • Community service projects
  • Economic development projects
  • Housing rehabilitation
  • Infrastructure
  • Public facility improvements
